UPDATE: I ran the ING Bay to Breakers race on May 17th and finished in the top 8000. I couldn't have done it without the help of Team in Training, a program offered by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I ran with the Spring 2009 East Bay, Bay Side Team, better known as TEAM HEART.
Here are some pix from the event. Enjoy!

I'm training to participate in the ING Bay to Breakers race as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event on May 17 in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers, especially for:
These people are the real heroes on our team -- TEAM HEART -- and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure! If you have your own personal connections to blood cancers, please let me know. Tell me their names and any other details you'd like to share. I'll add their names to my honoree list and my team's honoree banner. I will also write their name(s) on my jersey for the big race.
To make a difference in the lives of these honorees and anyone else living with blood cancers, please donate today!
I will also be honoring the following individuals who are suffering or have passed away from other cancers or illnesses:
I'd like to thank the following businesses for generously providing gift cards, merchandise, services, or venues for fundraising events:

Thanks to the following donors for sponsoring each kilometer of my race, and helping me cross the (financial) finish line. Want to join them?

THE FINISH LINE!
I'm humbled by the amount of generous support I received either through direct donations, assistance and participation in my events, or just consistent encouragement. I'd like to thank each donor for their generosity, especially in these tough economic times. No recession blues for you...you guys ROCK!
Every donation, regardless of the amount, helps make a huge difference in the lives of patients, and funds research that brings us one step closer to finding a cure. Here are a few examples of how your generous donations may be helping the cause:
$1000 - Supports 1 week's salary for a medical researcher who may discover key information to developing curative treatments for blood cancers.
$500 - Provides a blood cancer patient with financial assistance for one year.
$500 - Allows 10 patients to log on to a webcast and hear the latest information in treatment for their disease.
$200 - Provides a Family Support Group Program for one year for a patient and their family.
$150 - Allows 5 patients to make a First Connection with a trained peer volunteer.
$100 - Provides 3 patients access to an information teleconference.
$75 - Is the average cost of tissue typing to become a bone marrow donor.
$50 - Is the cost of a CT scan
$40 - Is the cost of sending a comprehensive packet of information for children with cancer.
$35 - Pays for transportation expenses for a patient living in Northern California’s most rural areas to treatment at a comprehensive cancer center.
$25 - Covers a single prescription co-payment.
$5 - Is the cost of sending a newly diagnosed patient information about support and their disease.
And now the names of the generous donors & supporters who helped me raise more than $2700...

ULTIMATE BID
To be absolutely sure of winning an item, you should submit an amount equal to or exceeding the “ultimate bid” prior to May 3. This is almost like the "Buy it Now" price on e-Bay. Auction will remain open (unless I receive the “ultimate bid”) for additional bidding (by phone, email or online) until the close of the Silent Auction at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7. The final highest bid does not have to equal or exceed the ultimate bid. The latter just determines when bidding closes.
PAYMENT OPTIONS
The names of winners will be posted on my website on May 8, 2009 by noon. Items may be paid for by credit card, personal check or with cash. You must pay for the item before claiming it.
You need not be present to win! If you are a winner, but you are not present at the studio, you will be notified by e-mail or telephone. We can make arrangements for you to pick-up the item.
The fair market “value” for the items in the Silent Auction have been set by the donors who receive credit up to the value listed. You are entitled to a tax deduction for the amount paid over and above the stated value of the item.
SILENT AUCTION PROCEDURES
Bidding Instructions: Please take note of the opening bid and the ultimate bid for each item. If you are e-mailing your bid, please make sure that you fill out an auction bid form for each item on which you wish to bid. Ultimate Bid: If you wish to be certain that you win an item, you may bid the “ultimate” bid listed for an item. If you are the first to do so, bidding stops and you are the winner. If multiple people place the "ultimate" bid and it can't be determined who placed it first, then a random drawing will be held to decide the winner.
Tax Deductibility: The amount that your bid exceeds the fair market value of the items you received will be considered a tax-deductible donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
All Bids Are Final: Submitting a high bid is a contract to purchase.
All Sales Are Final: There are no returns or exchanges.
If you are bidding in person at Color Me Mine, please arrange to take your winning items once the winners are announced. The studio will release the items to the winners who present a paid receipt at the time of their departure.
Payment Terms: Cash or personal checks, which are to be made out to "LLS".
100% of proceeds benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Sports Basement is a place where the runners, swimmers, backpackers, fitness fans, and wacky triathletes who shop with us come for great prices. Many know that our prices are low because we buy overstock and excess inventory from quality manufacturers and pass along the savings. They also know that our store is their store, so they come to hold monthly club meetings, to host potlucks, to start a workout from our front doors or to pick up some tips at a speaker series event. Swing by next time your're feeling active!
